Robohopper
Privacy policy (beta)
Last updated: 2026-06-15. This policy covers the Robohopper plugin for Rhino 8 / Grasshopper, distributed as a free beta from simonepeluffo.com.
What Robohopper does
Robohopper is a Grasshopper plugin that runs inside Rhino on your machine. It starts two local HTTP servers bound to the loopback address 127.0.0.1 (your computer only), on ports 5200 and 9999. An AI agent that you choose and run sends commands to these local servers to read your Grasshopper canvas and to write, wire, and run C# script components.
Data the publisher collects
None. Robohopper has no servers operated by the publisher and performs no network calls to the publisher. Specifically:
- We do not collect personal data.
- We do not transmit your Grasshopper definitions or their contents to the publisher.
- We do not use analytics, tracking, or remote telemetry.
Network behaviour
Robohopper's two servers listen only on 127.0.0.1 and are reachable only from your own machine. Robohopper itself initiates no outbound connections: it does not phone home, check for updates, or contact any provider. The intelligence that drives it is your own AI agent, which runs as a separate program you installed; any network traffic it makes is its own, governed by its own policy (see "third parties: your AI agent" below).
Data stored locally on your machine
Robohopper keeps data only on your local disk, never in the cloud:
- The C# components it creates and wires live inside your own Grasshopper definition (the
.ghfile), exactly like any component you place yourself. - Any diagnostic output Robohopper writes (for troubleshooting) stays on your computer.
This data never leaves your computer unless you choose to share it. You can delete it at any time by removing the corresponding files.
Third-party data sharing
Robohopper and the publisher do not share your data with any third party. Robohopper contains no analytics tools, advertising networks, or third-party SDKs that transmit your data, and the publisher has no affiliates that receive your data.
Third parties: your AI agent
The AI agent you connect to Robohopper is a separate product with its own privacy policy. When you ask it to build something, the agent may send your instructions, and parts of your canvas it reads, to its own provider under that provider's terms, using your own account. Robohopper is only the local bridge between that agent and Grasshopper; it does not control, route, or store what your agent sends. Review your chosen AI agent's privacy policy separately.
Rhino and Grasshopper
Robohopper runs inside Rhino and Grasshopper. McNeel's own data practices are governed by McNeel's privacy statement, not by this policy.
Data retention and deletion
The publisher collects and retains no data about you, so there is nothing held on the publisher's side to retain or delete. The only data Robohopper keeps is stored locally on your own machine and remains there until you remove it.
The download page (this website)
This section covers the download website, which is separate from the plugin. It is hosted on Cloudflare. The download sits behind Cloudflare Turnstile rather than Google reCAPTCHA: Turnstile does not track you across sites and loads no third-party advertising tags. The files are served only after the check passes.
- Download count. We keep an anonymous count of verified downloads (plugin and kit) to see how the beta is used. No personal data is attached to it.
- Optional email. The email field is optional and does not affect the download. If you leave it, we use it only to send Robohopper release notices, and we remove it on request (design@simonepeluffo.com). We never sell or share it.
- Server logs. As with any website, Cloudflare may transiently process basic request metadata (such as your IP address) to serve the page and block abuse, under its own terms.
Changes
As this is a beta, this policy may change. The current version will always be the one linked from the download page.
